Joan Laporta reveals why he failed to sign Nico Williams and Luis Diaz before settling on loan with Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has spoken out about the club’s failure to sign Athletic Bilbao forward Nico Williams. Saying signing the 22-year-old was a complicated process for the Blaugrana this summer, Mundo Deportivo reported on Thursday.สมัครสมาชิก UFABET วันนี้ รับเครดิตฟรีทุกวัน
Laporta said :
“It’s a more complicated position than the goalkeeper position. Because there were opinions from all sides. There were many options, and I’m very happy. That we finally got the option I like the most,” Laporta said.

‘It’s true that I like Luis Diaz, he’s a very complete player. But his situation at Liverpool is very tight, so it’s complicated. Although I’m always grateful to players who want to move.’
‘The situation with Nico Williams also arose, and because Luis’s situation was complicated and we were in talks with Rashford, Nico’s representatives came to me to offer me the possibility of signing him.’
Laporta also revealed that Deco was the one who convinced him to take Nico seriously, even though the Portuguese director is a big fan of Diaz.
‘Deco has told me, in principle I would like to consider the other two options, but in this case I always listen to the sporting director,’ Laporta said. ‘He said we should at least listen because he is an interesting player, because he plays well on the wing.
‘Negotiations took place, but from what they told us and the outcome, there were significant differences in payment terms, agent commissions, and other factors that indicated the deal would not happen.’
‘Deco gave us a 48-hour deadline and if they didn’t accept our terms, we wouldn’t do the deal. In the end, it happened. Meanwhile, the work with the other two continued and Rashford’s words became clearer.’
