Chelsea have officially confirmed that their star right-back Reece James has been appointed as the club’s new captain.

New boss Mauricio Pochettino has spent the summer evaluating which players are suitable to succeed Cesar Azpilicueta’s captaincy. Who waved goodbye from the club after being with the team for 11 years,

then they decided to appoint James, the club’s youngster, as the new captain and also assigned Ben Chilwell as vice-captain.

“I am very happy to be given this responsibility and responsibility. I knew I had to fill in the big gap because we had so many great captains. But I’m excited,” said James.

“I’ve been at Chelsea most of my life. I started at the club when I was six and my work through the academy was difficult. But being the captain is a great feeling for me and my family.

Pochettino also spoke about this decision. “This is a decision made by me and the club. We are delighted that Reece will be the new captain this season

. He was extremely proud to wear the captain’s armband during the summer tour. “He is a very talented player and will embrace the challenge of leading the team in his own way and ideas.”

James has been at Chelsea since the age of six and has been honing his pace at youth level and on loan. With Wigan before making his debut in the 2019-20 season,

the 23-year-old has since made 147 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals, as well as winning the Champions League in 2020. -21 too
